At Charter Place in Watford Town Centre, a project for revitalising the retail heart and enhancing the quality and accessibility of the public environment is under way.
As part of this project, Beaver Group is working with Image Works and Watford Borough Council to provide a digital wayfinding solution for this retail centre.
touch screen
Two wayfinding kiosks provide visitors to Charter Place with a simple and friendly touch-screen interface for finding stores, restaurants, amenities and travel information.
The kiosks are fed live information about train timetables, as well as traffic reports for the local area, and there are details and directions for car parks, cycling paths and taxi ranks - all available for the public through these kiosks.

Using the touch-screen, visitors can search for shops and the kiosk will highlight where that shop is. It also does the same thing for amenities such as cash machines, escalators, toilets and telephones and uses a simple, clear design to ensure that the required information is relevant and delivered quickly.
One of the key features of the kiosks are their connection to the web, so they can provide live information about train times and traffic reports. This information is kept up-to-date automatically from official sources, so for visitors to Charter Place, it is an invaluable resource and adds real value when using the kiosks.
long-term benefits
Using digital touch-screens, rather than traditional printed signage, means that when something changes like a new store or change in bus route, the system can be quickly kept up-to-date with that change. The new information is fed into the content management system and keeps the information on screen correct.
In addition, connecting it to the web means that things such as train timetables and traffic reports are local, relevant and 100% accurate, which adds real local immediacy to the information.
