The Moving Target of Web Browsers

« back to all stories

In order to build engaging, rich and stylish designs for websites and web applications, we need to be able to take full advantage of the capabilities of modern browsers. Some features, such as HTML5, are simply not available on older browsers and some users are not getting the best experience from the web when they don’t update to a newer browser.

For this reason, Beaver Group are now focusing on developing for the latest and previous releases of the top four browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. As new updates become available, we will of course continue to do our best to build for previous versions, but can no longer commit to developing for out-dated browsers. It’s not just us though; other companies, such as Microsoft, WordPress and Google, have also stopped supporting older browsers.

Currently only around 3.5% of people still use IE6 or IE7. Or to put it another way, there are in fact more people in the UK who don’t count English as their first language (7%), than people who use IE6 or IE7 – so, with that in mind, we would in fact reach more people if we were to develop in other languages, than to develop for IE6 or IE7 browsers!

If you need to update your browser, then you can get the latest FREE versions of the top browsers from the links below:

Staying updated will mean a better experience for you, better development from us and an overall better web for everyone.

Hi,

We have detected that you are using Internet Explorer 6 or below…

This is a very out of date web browser and you will not be able to experience our website to its full potential.

We recommend that you upgrade Internet Explorer or better still, install one of the browsers below:

This will mean you can experience not only this site, but the whole web in the best possible way!

Thank you, The Beaver Team
